Prof. Dr. med. Carmen Andrea Pfortmüller

Prof. Dr. med. Carmen A. Pfortmueller is the Deputy Head Physician of the University Clinic for Intensive Care Medicine at Inselspital Bern. After completing her medical studies at the University of Bern and earning her doctorate in 2010, she specialized in Internal Medicine and Intensive Care Medicine. Alongside her clinical training, she deepened her expertise in economics with an MBA from the University of Illinois and a healthcare management program at the Rochester School of Business.

As a member of the clinic's leadership team and Head of Research, she shares responsibility for financial management, process optimization, personnel management, digitalization, and quality management at the Intensive Care Clinic. From June 2025, Carmen Pfortmüller will also be involved in health policy as an expert on the HSM Committee of the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Health Directors and will contribute her expertise to national and international expert committees.
